Not much is known about Gianna's previous life, but at one point, after her cousin Shea's death, both King Valyn Da'Neer and her uncle Alastir Davenwell wanted Gianna to marry Prince Casteel Da'Neer upon his return to Atlantia.

Gianna is described to have pale wintery blue eyes, a striking contrast to the golden hue of her skin and the warm blonde hair that falls over her shoulders in loose waves. Her features are a mix of traits, her eye wide set yet hooded softening the sharp angles of her cheekbones, her brows are thick and several shades darker than her hair. She has small mouth but her lips are full. She is several inches shorter than Poppy. She has ample breasts and lush hips. She is described as being uniquely beautiful.
