Kingdom of Flesh and Fire; Chapter 38 - Battle against Solis

Duchess Teerman is outside the walls and speaking to Casteel before the fight broke out. She says "One of your dogs made it back to you, did he not? The other well..... our horses have been well fed."

Does this mean that the Ascended have vampire horses? Because that makes NO since and Jennifer can not actually think that horses eat flesh. This has literally rocked my brain and I can't get over.
